NBCEA Promotes Internships
Of all the activities a student can do, high GPA, good school, athletics, club involvement, competitions, and others, the one activity that has the most impact on a student’s ability to get a job and increase their starting salary is for them to participate in internships. They are different from after school jobs which provide pocket money, they provide target experience in the field in which the student is considering making a career.
When the Northern Brazoria County Education Alliance (NBCEA) was created in 2007, one of the targeted goals was to create an internship program with primary employers in Pearland. The NBCEA facilitates placement through Pearland ISD CTE programs.
By providing an internship you not only give a student firsthand knowledge, but you are also giving them a real-life experience on what is involved in actually working the field.
Internships typically have students doing work they will be doing if they choose that field as a career.
For more information on hosting a student intern please contact Pearland ISD’s Career and Technical Education Director Mike Akin at akinm@pearlandisd.org or call 281-485-3203 or the NBCEA office at 832-265-625 or cindy@nbcea.org.

We increase the collaboration between Industry and the Education Community to bring our Industry and Educational Partners together to address the need for specialized training and develop curriculum to address the need for highly skilled workers.
A significant percentage of the workforce in industry is approaching retirement age and the manufacturing community turned to the Northern Brazoria County Education Alliance to equip the next generation of workers. Pearland industry leaders developed a curriculum for a General Maintenance Technician in response to a need voiced by local manufacturers.
With training and experience, the General Maintenance Technician can lead to a career path with a majority of Pearland’s primary employers.
